Contest: Photos of Home | Azadeh Hadizadeh Esfahani

February 06, 2012

We're sharing the contest entries from our Photos of Home grad student competition.

Today's photos are from Azadeh Hadizadeh Esfahani, Urban Studies Program, who writes:

These photos were taken in November 2010 at Dasht-e Lut. Dasht-e-Lut is the largest desert basin in Iran, located about 500 kilometres south-east of Tehran, and is considered to be one of the driest places on Earth. The 51,800 square kilometre desert is covered by parallel ridges and furrows (top photo), which are beside plain areas of sand (photo below): sculpted every day by the wind, sieving the sand so that the coarse ones lay on the top.
