GSS Graduate Scholarship Campaign
In partnership with the GSSs from UVic, UNBC, and UBC, your SFU Graduate Student Society is advocating for the creation of a Graduate Provincial Scholarship.
The GSS developed a proposal along with the other GSSs which was distributed to the Green Party of BC, the BC Liberals, the BC NDP, and the BC Conservatives in the fall of 2012. In early 2013, representatives from each society met with Hon. John Yap, former Minister of Advanced Education, Innovation, and Technology, as well as Ms. Michelle Mungall, Critic for Advanced Education from the BC NDP.
The Green Party has officially adopted the Graduate Provincial Scholarship as a campaign priority, while the others have not.
The Research Universities Council, representing the administration at UBC, UNBC, SFU, Royal Roads, UVic, and TRU, has also called on the Provincial government in their Opportunities Agenda to create a Graduate Provincial Scholarship.
The GSS is now asking members of SFU's community, including all students and faculty, to help with the advocacy effort by sending a postcard (sample below) to politicians calling on them to create the Scholarship. The GSS has created the postcard as well as address labels which are available in the GSS Lounge (MBC 2212) and the Dean of Graduate Studies Office.
Community members are also invited to take postcards back to their departments for others to fill out. The GSS will mail all postcards on your behalf, so just drop them in the GSS Offices (MBC 2201) directly or through inter-office mail.
