The recording of Dr. Anke Hoeffler's lecture for the Spring 2013 President's Dream Colloquium on Justice Beyond National Boundaries is now available.

Is Democratization the Most Effective Means to Help the World’s Poor?
Thursday, April 11, 3:30 pm
IRMACS Theatre, ASB 10900, Burnaby campus

Lecture Abstract
In this colloquium I will debate the hypothesis that democratization is the key to delivering economic growth and opportunities, public goods and service delivery. In this debate I will also address the following questions: Can Africa make poverty history? Why are countries rich in natural resources politically and economically dysfunctional?  Do third party interventions (e.g. aid, military operations, election observers) support or hinder the global fight against poverty?
