The IRMACS Centre starts off their Fall 2015 Coast to Coast seminar series on September 22, with the topic of "Foundations and Applications of Big Data".

Dr. Martin Ester is the first speaker, and will be presenting "Recommender Systems: Exploiting Big User Feedback Data for Personalization". The demand by users for personalized selection of items relevant to their needs has motiviated the development of recommender systems, which learn the user needs from available feedback data.
