The Simon Fraser Public Interest Research Group (SFPIRG) is looking for volunteer researchers for their Letters for the Inside Project (LFTI).

LFTI is a nationally-recognized project where student researchers respond to research requests from prisoners. The aim of LFTI is to increase inmates' access to information, and by doing so, seeks to provide a better quality of life on the inside and also to assist in inmate transitions back to the community.

In addition to providing requested information, LFTI aims to reduce the stigmas associated with prisoners, as well as build bridges between those on the inside and the wider community.

The program is recruiting volunteer researchers to respond to letters with requests from inmates on a variety of topics. Requests vary from song lyrics to health issues to educational opportunities.

Full training is provided.

Send us an email at letters@sfpirg.ca to learn more about the program or to schedule a volunteer orientation.
