Events: SFU Welcome Figure Installation Ceremony

SFU acknowledges the surrounding traditional territories of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), sәl̓ilw̓ әtaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), xʷmәθkʷәy̓әm (Musqueam) and kʷikʷәƛ ̓ әm (Kwikwetlem) nations.

On March 9, an Aboriginal Welcome Figure, created by Squamish artist, Sinámkin – Jody Broomfield, will be installed. This figure will embrace all who come to the SFU Burnaby Mountain campus. Andrew Petter, President and Vice Chancellor of Simon Fraser University, invites the SFU community to celebrate this historic moment together. 

  • Date: Thursday, March 9, 2017
  • Time: 10:00 AM – light lunch will be served following the ceremony
  • Venue: Green Space at the Intersection of Gaglardi Way and South Campus Road, SFU Burnaby Campus
  • RSVP:  Please fill out this form by March 2, 2017

Please note that the ceremony will be held outdoors, so please dress accordingly.
