APEX Summer Workshops

The APEX Workshop Series is designed for advanced degree holders looking for structure and support in building their professional development plans. It will help you:

  • Expand your professional network 
  • Build confidence in your knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Translate your knowledge, skills and abilities to various audiences (which may show up on your career documents such as CVs, resumes, teaching dossiers and online profiles such as LinkedIn.) 

APEX: Foundations (Workshop 1)
In this session, you will explore your personal professional background, which includes beginning to identify your transferable skills and your signature strengths. You'll explore professional development options and set action items to move you forward in reaching your professional goals.

APEX: Creating Your Own Luck (Workshop 2)
In this session, you will gain a deeper understanding of how to increase your 'luck' and 'chance' in the world of work. Continuing your exploration from the Foundations session, you will continue to document what's important to you in the world of work by using a Career and Life Sketch. 

APEX: Building Authentic Relationships (Workshop 3) 
In this session, we'll redefine the power of networking and help you think about proactive and systematic ways to approach your job search process. You will learn tools and strategies to help you approach people and build professional relationships, in order to increase your 'luck' and 'chance' in the world of work. 

APEX: Connecting the Dots (Workshop 4) 
This is a synthesis session, a chance to connect all the dots from yor professional development activities, career exploration, and activities completed within the APEX professional development series. You will spend time honing your professional statement and practice presenting your professional self to your peers and facilitators.

Please note that if you sign up for any of the APEX Workshops but are unable to attend, give 24 hours notice in order to avoid the $25 no-show fee. You can cancel your registration through myInvolvement, or contact apex@sfu.ca to cancel. ​

  • Nominations Open for Sterling Prize in Support of Controversy December 13, 2017
    Nominations are now being accepted for the Nora and Ted Sterling Prize in Support of Controversy. The prize is awarded annually for work that presents new daring and creative ways of looking at the world. Submit nominations for consideration by February 15, 2018.
