Blackwood Partners, the City of Surrey, and Simon Fraser University want to inspire SFU student projects that have potential for innovative engagement and meaningful impact in the communities in which SFU students live, learn, work, and play with the Student-Community Engagement Competition. This year, $12,000 is available to ignite innovative projects.

Awards are available in several neighbourhoods:

  • Surrey Centre neighborhood: a Grand Award of $3,000 and 2 Engagement Awards of $2,000
  • Burnaby neighbourhoods (Metrotown, Lougheed, Brentwood and/or Edmonds): a Grand Award of $3,000 and an Engagement Award of $2,000

Teams can consist of 1-5 students, the majority of which must be enrolled at Simon Fraser University. Each person on the team must be an integral part of the proposed project and must intend to participate fully in its implementation.

For more information about the SFU Student-Community Engagement Competition, to see past projects, and to apply, please visit the competition webpage.

Registration and preliminary application are due by December 1, 2017. Winners will be selected at a live dialogue event in February 2018.
