Job Posting: PURE Postdoctoral Research Fellow
The Community Health Assessment Research Team (CoHeART) is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research fellow in the area of global health epidemiology relevant to the prevention of cardiovascular and other chronic diseases. This is a two-year position with possible one-year extension.
Under the supervision of Dr. Scott Lear, Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at SFU, the CoHeART research program is a multi-disciplinary, energetic team focused on the prevention and management of chronic diseases spanning from the individual to the population level.
The current project will entail using data from the Prospective Urban and Rural Epidemiologic (PURE) Study. The PURE study is a global initiative in more than 20 countries investigating the causes of the causes of cardiovascular and chronic diseases in over 150 000 people. Now approaching 12 years of follow-up, results from the PURE study have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Circulation and other high impact journals. It is expected that the successful applicant will lead a number of high-impact investigations focused on the role of physical activity, nutrition and the environment in disease prevention. A period of training will be provided at the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI) in Hamilton, Ontario.
Applicants will have a recent PhD with a strong background and publication record in a relevant field (cardiovascular disease, epidemiology, physical activity, built environment). The position will rely heavily on statistical analyses so demonstrated expertise in statistical analysis is required. Experience in spatial analyses is an asset.
The applicant should also demonstrate the ability to work independently, conceive, initiate, organize and manage projects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a necessity as well as the ability to work in a team environment. Management experience with large, multi-center projects is an asset.
The position will commence as soon as possible. Funding is available for two years and the successful candidate will be expected to apply for external award funding.
Qualified candidates should send (by email) a statement of research interest, curriculum vitae and contact details for 3 referees to Scott Lear, PhD (email@example.com).
