External Award: Human Immunology Research Teams

September 12, 2018

CIHR’s Institute of Infection & Immunity (III) in partnership with the Institute of Gender and Health (IGH) and the Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (IMHA) has launched The Human Immunology Initiative. The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $6,560,000.

The application process for the Research Teams will consist of two stages: Letter of Intent (LOI) and Full Application. Applicants who are successful at the LOI stage will be required to participate in a strengthening workshop (date and location to be determined).

Sex and gender are key elements of this initiative.
The overall goal of this initiative is to create a coordinated workforce in human immunology research and build capacity to develop standardized methods to test novel therapeutic approaches in human immunology research. Sex differences exist in the incidence, progression and severity of many autoimmune diseases. A better understanding of sex-related mechanisms — and of human immune system function and dysfunction more generally — are necessary for advancing the translation of basic science discoveries into improved management of human autoimmune diseases.
