Colin is the recipient of an NSERC award to study quantum critical superconductivity. He says, "The problem I am studying is superconductivity in heavy fermion metals – materials that have been tuned to the brink of magnetism and are on the verge of losing their normal metallic character. What emerges instead is a fluctuating electronic liquid in which the charge carriers behave as though they have masses 100 to 1000 times that of an electron."
