Communication Intern for the SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue

The Communication Intern will be responsible for the following:

  • interview, transcribe, write Dialogue Associate profiles
  • analyze Google Analytics and ad tracking for the Centre’s website (and produce weekly summaries)
  • create an editorial house style sheet (based on SFU’s existing guidelines)
  • assist with writing and editing content for an informational brochure about the SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue

The successful candidate with have the following skills:

  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • experience writing for the web
  • good interpersonal and organizational skills

Marketing Intern for the SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue

The Marketing Intern will assist with tasks including conducting research on various topics, analyzing and summarizing research, planning event logistics, liaising with external venders, providing event support, and proofreading and editing documents for both internal and external use. Additionally, the student will assist the team with office duties and various tasks both before and during the 2018 Jack P. Blaney Award for Dialogue.

General responsibilities: 

  • Research: Produce timely, thorough, and succinct research for SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue programs, including charting relevant potential partners and individuals in preparation for 2018 Jack P. Blaney Award (~60%)
  • Event Planning: Support the planning and execution of SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue events
  • Data: Use the CRM Database to organize, streamline, and administer various types of data, as well as extract social media analytics to improve future digital marketing efforts
  • Writing: produce written content for SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue website and newsletters                                  

Qualifications include:

  • Excellent English proficiency, including written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Proficiency with social media tools and analytics
  • Basic understanding of website CRM
  • Ability to effectively adjust communication approach and tone to better fit the group or individual with whom in correspondence
  • Competence in proofreading and editing documents for both internal and external purposes  

Learning objectives: 

  1. Practice and improve written and verbal communication skills for a variety of different contexts and purposes
  2. Gain a deeper understanding of the execution of an event from start to finish, whether through observation of or playing an active role in the backend process
  3. Expand research ability and knowledge of community stakeholders
  4. Improve social media skills and best practices: creating and curating content; translating information from analytics data; and effectively implementing changes to social media strategy
