Want to work with SFU's Semester in Dialogue? Simon Fraser University students who already qualify for the Work Study program can apply to join the team this fall as a Marketing Intern. Open to students in any faculty. Apply through the SFU Work Study portal until September 14.

Marketing intern for SFU's Semester in Dialogue

The Marketing Intern will assist with tasks including researching and planning advertising and marketing campaigns, liaising with external venders, providing event support, and writing copy for social media campaigns. Additionally, the student will assist the team with office duties and various tasks specific to SFU's Semester in Dialogue.

General responsibilities: 

  • Conduct research and work with staff to discuss, plan and implement marketing plans for SFU's Semester in Dialogue
  • Create content for Semester in Dialogue digital channels, including writing copy for social media campaigns and newsletters
  • Use the CRM Database to organize, streamline, and administer various types of data, as well as extract social media analytics to improve future digital marketing efforts
  • Event Planning: Support the planning and execution of SFU Semester in Dialogue events

Qualifications include:

  • Excellent English proficiency, including written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel
  • Proficiency with social media tools and analytics
  • Basic understanding of website CRM
  • Ability to effectively adjust communication approach and tone to better fit the group or individual with whom in correspondence
  • Competence in proofreading and editing documents for both internal and external purposes  
  • Knowledge and experience with the Adobe Creative Suite an asset

Learning objectives: 

  • Practice and improve written and verbal communication skills for a variety of different contexts and purposes
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the execution of a a marketing campaign from start to finish, whether through observation of or playing an active role in the backend process
  • Expand research ability and knowledge of community stakeholders
  • Improve social media skills and best practices: creating and curating content; translating information from analytics data; and effectively implementing changes to social media strategy
