SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY IMPROVES PRINT QUALITY AND EFFICIENCY WITH HP INDIGO 7500 DIGITAL PRESS

As one of Canada’s top universities, it is important for Simon Fraser University (SFU) to present a professional brand image in all aspects of communications, in particular when it comes to printed marketing materials.

As the main source for marketing collateral and printed materials for faculty, admissions and student services, the SFU print facilities, Document Solutions, focuses on providing high-quality products including brochures, posters, calendars and more. These products are used across campus and a variety of stakeholder groups for everything including academic course materials, admissions, student recruitment, as well as promotional materials for on-campus clubs. In an effort to increase quality and colour, and reduce costs, Docsol recently installed an HP Indigo 7500 Digital Press.

“We were looking for new technology that would help us lower our operating costs, while providing us with the colour, quality and consistency that is important for our customers,” said Lilian Ding, SFU. “In the past we had challenges ensuring that our old technology was able to produce our corporate brand colours, but with the new HP Indigo 7500 Digital Press we’re getting the quality that our customers require.”

The HP Indigo 7500 Digital Press has been praised for its print quality. With up to seven ink stations, allowing 4-, 6-, and 7-colour PANTONE ® emulation, and off-press mixing, the printer matches up to 97 per cent of PANTONE ® colours.

“It’s important for HP to provide digital presses with best-in-class colour consistency,” added Danny Ionescu, VP Sales & Marketing, GSB, HP Canada. “The HP Indigo 7500 Digital Press can accurately meet colour demands with special spot colours, allowing print service providers the ability to provide clients with top-notch colour-matching.”

The increased quality and impact of the products created using HP’s digital printing technology has also made an impact with customers. “Customers are more confident that Docsol can meet colour expectations,” said Ding. “We are also able to offer new applications, which combined with the increased confidence from our customers has led to an increase in project volume.”

Not only has the new HP Indigo 7500 Digital Press helped with colour projects but with more traditional black and white applications as well.

“Printed books and course materials are key products for the education market and we need to have the ability to produce these quickly and affordably,” said Ding. “With the Indigo we’re able to print what we need, when we need it, eliminating waste. This is great, especially when printing academic materials, which have different volume and format requirements.”
