CANQUA-CGRG Biennial Meeting, Simon Fraser University,
Burnaby Campus, May 3-8 th , 2009

Welcome to CANQUA-CGRG SFU!

The Organizing Committee of the 2009 meeting of the Association Canadienne pour l'étude du Quaternaire / Canadian Quaternary Association and The Canadian Geomorphology Research Group / Le Groupe Canadien de Recherche en Géomorphologie warmly welcomes you to Simon Fraser University (SFU) and Vancouver, Canada's Gateway to the Orient. Perched on Burnaby Mountain , SFU is a fitting venue for our meeting, with its views of the Coast Mountains, the Fraser River delta, Mt. Baker , and, on a clear day, Vancouver Island and the Olympic Peninsula. The British Columbia south coast lies at a subduction zone at the west edge of North America . The landscape has been shaped by glaciers, rivers, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and landslides, and all these processes continue to be active, posing challenges to the three million people who live here. The unique and beautiful setting provides opportunities to examine a range of geophysical processes, landforms, Quaternary stratigraphy and history, paleoecology, and archaeology, all within a short distance of the campus. Within a few hours drive, one can visit an active volcano, walk on a glacier, see ancient rainforest, whitewater raft, or cross the Coast Mountains and enter the lake country of the dry southern BC interior. Vancouver also offers its visitors diverse urban attractions, including an incomparable natural setting and a vibrant multi-cultural society. We hope that you enjoy your visit to our city and benefit from the meeting program and the time spent with friends, old and new.
