Numerous Awards will be bestowed at CANQUA-CGRG 2009.
The WA Johnston medal ( http://www.mun.ca/canqua/awards.html ) is CANQUA's most meritorious award recognizes professional excellence in Quaternary research. This award will be presented at the banquet Tuesday evening where the award winner will give an acceptance speech. Nominations are open until January 15, 2009.
The J. Ross Mackay award ( http://cgrg.geog.uvic.ca/jrm1.htm ) is to be presented annually by the CGRG in recognition of significant achievement in research by young geomorphologists within Canada . There will be two Mackay awards presented during the conference consisting of a talk by the award winner.
2007 Recipient - Dr. Ian Walker – for his national and international contributions to the study of aeolian sediment transport and erosion processes in desert and coastal sand dune complexes.
2008 Recipient - Dr. Brian P. Menounos – for his study of paleoenvironmental proxy data from annually layered clastic lake sediments in the Coast Mountains of southern British Columbia .
Students will be interested in the following CANQUA and CGRG awards chosen for presentations at the conference.
CANQUA gives a number of student awards. The DN Proudfoot and Guy Lortie awards ( http://www.mun.ca/canqua/awards.html ) are given to the three best student talks and posters.
CGRG presents the Olav Slaymaker Awards ( http://cgrg.geog.uvic.ca/oslay1.html ) for the best student oral paper and best student poster presented at a CGRG sponsored session.
CAP Student Award
