Areas of interest

Relating near-surface groundwater flow systems in North Eastern BC and the chemical influence of oil and gas industry infrastructure.

Matt will be working in NE BC, collecting and analyzing several groundwater samples to map the chemical influence of oil and gas industry infrastructure on near-surface aquifers. Thousands of oil and gas wells have been installed in NE BC and it’s understood that at least 10% of them leak into the atmosphere, various subsurface strata, and surficial aquifers. Matt will quantify and map the extent of well leakage and examine the effect of well leakage on regional groundwater chemistry.
