Surficial Geology Map and Glacial History Reconstruction near Mayo, Yukon

My thesis project includes the completion of a high-resolution surficial geology map in the Keno Hill mining area in central Yukon. Surficial geology maps are commonly used in mining, community planning, and hazard mitigation. Another portion of this project includes the glacial history reconstruction. Central Yukon was glaciated a number of times in the recent geologic history, and the interaction of alpine glaciers and larger ice-sheets is relatively unknown. Studying the sediments in this area will help us understand how the glaciers reshaped the landscape, and how the glaciations affected economically viable mineral deposits, including gold, that are currently mined in the area.
