Earth Sciences Honours Program


This BSc program offers a wider cross-section of discipline-related courses while providing an opportunity for independent research. Entry into the honors requires a CGPA of 3.00 or higher (B standing), and permission of the department. This program has the same requirements as for the Major program except for the following additional requirements:

  • Maintenance of a minimum GPA of 3.00
  • A minimum of 60 credit hours of 300 and 400 level EASC or Physical Geography courses, or related courses approved by the department. Students are strongly advised to select courses in consultation with advisors and with consideration of career goals.
  • Completion of appropriate electives to achieve a final total of at least 132 credits hours, including at least 12 credit hours from outside the Faculty of Science
  • The completion of EASC 499 (Undergraduate Thesis - see below)

 

 

Undergraduate Thesis Requirements

    • Written acknowledgement from a Faculty member(s) showing they agree to supervise the thesis.
    • Provisional thesis title.
    • In consultation with supervisor(s), additional upper division course credits will be selected to meet the 60 credit requirement.
    • Students must declare an honors program before registering in EASC 499.
    • In addition to the written thesis, students will give a mandatory oral presentation of their thesis results on a departmentally designated "thesis day".
    • Presentation and completion of the thesis must occur before grades are due for the term in which EASC 499 is registered.
