Welcome to the Economics Department at Simon Fraser University, one of the top teaching and research Economics departments in Canada located in one of the world’s most attractive urban areas.

The Department currently houses 35 faculty members including an exceptional group of young talents (10 Assistant Professors in 2012-13). Research interests are diverse but the common vision is the application of theoretically and empirically rigorous analysis to many important research questions in economics. A good sense of the variety and of the quality of the research undertaken in the Department can be gathered from the publications of its members.  

For undergraduate students, we offer programs leading to several different degrees in Economics, as well as programs offered jointly with Business, Political Science, and Latin American Studies.

For graduate students, we offer an M.A. and a Ph.D. program. Graduate students in Economics come from all over the world and find jobs in a variety of activities. The Department has a very good placement record at the PhD level.

For our alumni and friends of the Department, we have launched a dedicated Alumni website to stay in touch with the Department and with old friends, a regular Newsletter (see Fall 2012 edition) to provide exciting news about the Department, and an annual Public Lecture. Stay tuned for more initiatives on this front in the coming months.
