BMO Public Lectures
Dr. Ross Levine was the speaker for the April 2013 BMO Public Lecture. Dr. Levine is one of the co-authors of “Guardian of Finance”. This book is a timely analysis of the (in)actions of financial regulators that lead to the financial crisis in the late 2000’s and why current regulations are on the path to repeat history. Dr. Levine will propose ways to rectify this situation, however powerful forces will work against reform. Dr. Levine is the current Wilis H. Booth Chair in Banking and Finance at the University of California, Berkeley.
Connections with our local community can enrich students' learning experience, and SFU Economics aims to provide students with opportunities for productive community engagement.
Danse Crowkiller and Jennifer Hales recently visited ECON 104 to explore themes of poverty, homelessness inequality and development. Danse, a homeless man from Vancouver’s Commercial Drive area, has made a short film about his life on Vancouver’s streets. Jennifer is an Education Consultant and author of the teaching resource Learning about Homelessness in British Columbia.
The presentation, hosted by Professor Krishna Pendakur, gave students an opportunity to gain more in-depth understanding of homelessness issues and to explore and clarify their own views about homelessness.
