Peter Kennedy Memorial Graduate Fellowship to support outstanding graduate students pursuing their master's or doctoral degrees in the Department of Economics, $26,000

Thomas Vigié, comes from France, in the Basque country. He studied Economics in France until his masters, and came here for the PhD. His research interests are in Econometrics.

In particular, he aims to design and provide statistical tools that help economists answer quantitative questions with more accuracy. Besides all this teaching is something he truly enjoys, as it allows him to re-learn some concepts in a different way.

Zhifeng is a second-year Phd student in economics at SFU. After finishing his master study in economics and finance at CEMFI, Madrid, he joined the Econ program at SFU in pursuit of studying and doing research in development and political economics. One of his research interest is to study the evolution of social norms brought by the emergence of new economy, new social media and migration. 

ANIL DONMEZ

Lang Wong Memorial Endowment Scholarship for MA or PhD international students with strong academic record, $6,000

Following a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering and a Master of Arts degree in economics from Bogazici University, Anil Donmez is currently a 3rd year PhD student in Economics at SFU. His research focuses on financial economics, behavioral finance, and learning & adaptation

Stanislav (Stan) Hetalo

Lang Wong Memorial Endowment Scholarship for MA or PhD international students with strong academic record, $6,000

Stan Hetalo is a PhD student in Economics at SFU. He has completed his Bachelor’s degree in System Analysis back in his home country – Ukraine, Master’s degree in Economics at University of New Brunswick, and joined SFU in 2018. Stan’s research interests primarily lie in the fields of Environmental and Financial Economics. He is looking forward towards sustainable future and actively seeks for potential improvements in the given area.

Boxi Yang recipient of:

James Dean Award for best ECON 900 PhD research paper, $1,700

Boxi Yang is a PhD student in economics at SFU. She obtained her B.S. degree at Beijing Jiaotong University and master's degree at New York University. Her research interests range among various topics in the fields of development and labour economics. The awarded working paper examines the gender specific quantity-quality trade-off of children within households in the context of rural China. She is also working on a project regarding the intergenerational transmission and dynamics of cultural values. Besides her academic research, Boxi enjoys teaching as well and tries to help the students get a better learning experience in economics
