Join the Department of Economics team for the 2017 Bank of Canada Governor’s Challenge!
What will I be doing?
"The Governor’s Challenge simulates the monetary policy decision-making process by putting students in the role of advisor to the Bank’s Governing Council. Participating university teams must analyze and forecast economic developments and recommend whether to raise the Bank’s key interest rate, lower it, or leave it unchanged – in order to keep inflation low and stable – in line with the 2% inflation target." - Bank of Canada Governor's Challenge
The first meeting will be held in early September (first week of classes) and weekly meetings will be held in the fall semester. We anticipate that the time commitment will be at least three hours a week until the first presentation in late Nov. Participants must be able to commit for the entire fall semester and will have the option of registering for a directed studies course.
Who are we looking for?
We are recruiting up to 24 undergraduate students to participate in this national competition across Canadian universities. However only four students will be presenting to the Bank of Canada in late November for the first round. The top performing teams across Canada are invited to the Bank's head office in Ottawa to take part in the final round.
We are looking for students with a range of skills, courses, and units (first year to graduating students). We encourage all students to apply. Although your transcript is required, we are evaluating students based on your communication skills, research skills, and your knowledge.
How do I apply?
Fill out this application form. This application will take you 10 - 30 minutes to complete. You have the ability to "save your progress" should you wish to return to your application at a later date. However only submitted applications will be reviewed. There is no fee to apply. We are accepting applications on a rolling basis. Please apply sooner rather than later. We will contact you with information after reviewing your application. If you have questions about the process of applying please email email@example.com
