Some reflection questions to help you prepare for your online discussion this week:
O'Neill (2001)
- What is telementoring (in your own words)? How does it differ from "career day" or tutoring.
- What struck you as the most promising thing about the idea of telementoring? What struck you as the most troublesome thing about it?
- Describe the three biggest concerns you would have if you were to attempt the Community in Balance unit with a class. For each concern, what are questions that you would need to have answered before you would feel ready to start?
Tiene and Ingram (2001)
- What are some issues related to multiculturalism you need to consider when using technology in your teaching?
- Consider reasons why virtual reality (or simulations) might be beneficial in some areas of schooling.
- Consider potential challenges, other than cost, associated with using virtual reality in schools.
- Based on what you learned in reading Tiene and Ingram and your own experiences, are there any important differences between a "virtual reality" system, or simulation, and a videogame?
- Given your particular teaching interests, how do you see simulations being used in your teaching? consider your reasons for each, including any specific instructional objectives you have.
