My research focuses on how communal belonging and EAL (English as an Additional Language) development might be inter-related. My primary interest is enhancing professional equity for English as an additional language users, specifically “non-native” English language teachers. I strive to observe language learning experiences of English as an additional language users/teachers and observe their (counter)strategies for resisting marginalization and institutional oppression. I try to understand how identities might impact or be impacted by social integration experiences. My primary goal is to identify strategies that can facilitate institutional/professional identity negotiation of newcomers to English-speaking institutions at the times of increased mobility, multiculturalism, and globalization; at the individual, programmatic, and institutional levels. My expertise is qualitative socio-cultural research involving ethnography, institutional ethnography, case study, and narrative inquiry.
