Curriculum Theory & Implementation PhD

Please visit our Educational Theory and Practice: Curriculum and Pedagogy Stream PhD program as it has replaced our Curriculum Theory & Implementation program beginning Fall 2017.

Designed for students to develop a comprehensive understanding of current educational theory and practice this program prepares participants for:

  • professional and teaching positions in colleges and universities, educational leadership and consultancy, as well as non-traditional learning environments (e.g. serving as advocates, activists, policy analysts, media workers, and diversity or equity officers)
  • planning and curricular leadership roles in school districts, as well as adult and other educational settings, including informal educational settings

Through an atypical blend of the European and North American traditions of doctoral study, students:

  • undertake a small set of required courses
  • work intensively with her or/his/their supervisory committee (in an apprenticeship-type model).

Note: PhD applicants interested in pursuing research topics in equity studies should contact Dr. Özlem Sensoy ( for further details.
