Master of Education in Educational Practice, MEd EP

OVERVIEW

The Master of Education in Educational Practice (MEd EP) is a 12-month, 35-credit professional degree. The SFU Graduate Diploma in Advanced Studies in Education (GDE) or equivalent is a prerequisite. Educators admitted to the program within 5 years of completing the GDE can apply to receive up to 15 units of advance credit towards the MEd EP.

This program provides the opportunity for teacher-learners to extend the work undertaken in the GDE by broadening and deepening their understandings of educational theory, research and practice. This program is designed to support teacher-learners to:

  • situate themselves as educators within educational theories and practices
  • develop understandings and capacities related to teacher-inquiry
  • undertake an inquiry in educational practice
  • synthesize and represent their learning to a community of practitioner-inquirers through a written paper and a summative presentation

This program is offered at SFU campuses in the Lower Mainland and other areas of British Columbia, where there is a sufficient concentration of qualified applicants.  Specific locations for the programs in the Lower Mainland are determined by proximity to admissible applicants.

Classes may be held either in the evenings or on weekends, depending on the location of the program.

Important Change to MEd EP Admissions Requirements: As of May 2019, all teacher-learners must confer their Graduate Diploma in Advanced Studies in Education (GDE) diploma in order to be admitted into the Masters of Education in Educational Practice (MEd EP) program.

“I chose the Faculty of Education at SFU because I laddered the Fine Arts graduate diploma program into the master’s program.  SFU was also highly recommended by colleagues for graduate studies because of their highly regarded professors and curriculum.”
