Educational Practice MEd

Careers with a grad degree in education go beyond K–12 classrooms
Graduate degrees in education aren't solely for teachers. A grad degree in Education at Simon Fraser University (SFU) can help you advance your career, no matter what that career is.

The Master of Education in Educational Practice (MEd EP) is a professional degree that is “laddered” from the Graduate Diploma in Advanced Professional Studies in Education (GDE).  Students wishing to engage in this additional 12-months of study may seek admission to the program after successful completion of a GDE.  Students normally progress through this program as a cohort.  Please note that applicants to this program must have completed a GDE.

This program offers the opportunity for students to extend the work undertaken in the GDE by broadening and deepening their understandings of educational theory, research and practice.  This program is designed to support students to:

  • situate themselves as educators within educational theories and practices;
  • develop understandings and capacities related to teacher inquiry;
  • undertake an inquiry in educational practice; and
  • synthesize and represent their learning to a community of inquiry through comprehensive exams.
