Apply to the First Online Certificate in Imaginative Education

Simon Fraser University's Faculty of Education has launched the first online Graduate Certificate in Imaginative Education. Now anyone around the world interested in learning more about the award-winning theories and practices of Imaginative Education can study without having to leave their own communities.

This 15-credit, one-year graduate certificate is based on the work of the Imaginative Education Reseach Group (IERG), founded by Dr. Kieran Egan and is open to teachers, leaders, and educators from kindergarten through to post-secondary.

Dr. Kieran Egan's work on Engaging Students' Imaginations in Education has been awarded the 2016 Cmolik Prize for the Enhancement of Public Education in BC as well as has been honoured with the Paz Buttedahl Career Achievement Award from the 2016 Confederation of University Faculty Associations of BC Distinguised Academic Awards.

Over the course of one-year, students will study the following topics:

  • Engaging Students' Imaginations K–Post Secondary: Introducing Cognitive Tools
  • Engaging Students' Imaginations K–Post Secondary: Deepening Understanding and Applying IE to Subject Areas
  • Field Study in Imaginative Education: Introduction of Action Research Research
  • Assessing & Evaluating IE: Theoretical and Practical Issues
  • Field Study in IE: Conducting Action Research

Spaces are limited to 20 students in this initial cohort that will start Fall 2017 and complete in Summer 2018.
