"The FoE has some really exceptional faculty and support staff. You will not feel that you are on your learning journey alone."

Program/Degree: Educational Technology & Learning Design, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

I have a background in education (UK and Canada) and I am also a clinical counsellor. I work full-time at BCIT as an Instructional Development Consultant, and teach part-time in a MEd program (School Counselling) and have a small private counselling practice.

Please tell us why you chose the Faculty of Education at SFU for your studies.

SFU Faculty of Education has a very good reputation. I was looking for a Canadian based cohort program.

Who is a faculty member you have enjoyed working with and why?

Three people jump to mind. Firstly, Dr. David Kaufman who is my senior supervisor. He is very friendly, supportive and easy to work with. Secondly, Dr. Cher Hill (who works in the field programs) is also on my thesis committee and has been a fantastic, supportive collaborator. And Thirdly, Dr. Cheryl Amundsen - I had the pleasure of being in her class for two courses. She is an exceptional learning facilitator.

What would you say to prospective students who are considering graduate school in the Faculty of Education?

The FoE has some really exceptional faculty and support staff. You will not feel that you are on your learning journey alone. You will experience both support and challenge, and will undoubtedly feel like you've grown both personally and professionally by the time you've finished!
