Summer camps have started at Simon Fraser University and every nook and cranny of the Burnaby campus is occupied with youth learning everything from how to swim to how to code.

Between July 2-31, the inaugural 'SFU Academic Camp for Aboriginal Students' is offering a unique experience to 25 local Aboriginal students who are in grades 8 through 12.

Launched by SFU and the Interdisciplinary Research in the Mathematical and Computational Sciences (IRMACS) Centre, this camp combines day-long lessons in helping the students improve and discover their math and english communication skills. They also get a taste of what it's like to be a University student.

Two of our Education students - Natasa Sirotic (a math teacher and PhD candidate) and Wendy Law (a volunteer math teacher and PDP student) are a part of this camp as mathematics teachers.
