Format

The program (M.Ed.) includes seven online courses (total of 35 credits) plus an orientation week as well as a closing event at the SFU Burnaby campus.

***Options: Students have the choice of replacing EDUC 705 -Directed readings- with one of the online courses offered by the MedOuest Consortium (www.medouest.ca) or with an online course offered by the Université du Maine in Le Mans (France) or Université François-Rabelais in Tours (France) in their Master Program (Teaching French as a Second or Foreign Language).

Application


Admission criteria

The minimum University requirements for admission to a master’s program are as follows.
a) a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 from a recognized university, or the equivalent;
b) submitted evidence, usually references from qualified referees, of the student’s ability to undertake advanced work in the area of interest.

In exceptional circumstances, a student may be admitted with lower formal qualification than in (a) when there is significant professional experience relevant to the proposed area of scholarship.

Students must satisfy any further requirements set by the graduate program committee.

Fees (subject to change)

For each of the six semesters, students pay $2,584 in tuition fees. The total program cost is approximately $15,500.  In addition, students pay a one-time registration fee of $90 as well as student fees every semester (student services and activities, gym, etc). Bursary

BC teachers registered in a Master’s programs taught entirely in French are eligible for the Ministry of Education French Teacher Bursary. The bursary amounts to $3,000 over two years. Application forms for this bursary are available here.
