EGSA Conference & Travel Funding:
Terms of Reference...

1. Awards, up to a maximum of $100, will normally be provided from the EGSA for a maximum of one conference per fiscal year (May 1 – April 30) per student. Local conferences (within Greater Vancouver) will be eligible for a $50 award; conferences requiring out-of-town travel will be eligible for a $100 award.
   
   
2. Recipients must be registered in a Master’s or Doctoral program, in good standing (not on-leave or on extension of time limit).
   
   
3. Applications must be received by EGSA by the end of the semester preceding the semester in which the conference will occur. Awards will be determined by lottery at the first EGSA meeting of each semester, for the upcoming semester.
   
   
• Only applications received by those graduate students WHO ATTEND THIS FIRST EGSA MEETING OF THE SEMESTER WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR THE LOTTERY.
  If you are unable to attend this meeting due to extreme extenuating circumstances, you must contact egsa-chair@sfu.ca well in advance of the meeting with an explanation.
  
  
4. Application must include:
   • A brief description of the conference and the relevance to the student’s program;
   • A brief budget showing anticipated expenses and all sources of funding applied for or received, including research grant contributions;
     
     
5. Successful applicants must provide a written follow-up report of the conference attended to EGSA for inclusion on the website. IF YOU FAIL TO MEET THIS REQUIREMENT, YOU WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY EXCLUDED FROM FUTURE CONSIDERATION FOR THIS AWARD. (see examples of the Conference Report by clicking here)
   
   
6. As we have extremely limited conference funding (for over 500 graduate students); fraudulent or frivolous claims are not acceptable. While involvement in the EGSA or service to the larger Education community is not mandatory to receive conference funding, it is greatly appreciated.

Funding applications for the:

• Spring Semester must be submitted no later than December 31st
• Summer Semester must be submitted no later than April 30th
• Fall Semester must be submitted no later than August 31st
