On September 25, the Faculty of Applied Sciences held the annual Dean’s Honour Roll Reception. More than 400 outstanding students, who achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or greater in the last three semesters, were recognized for their academic excellence. Facullty of Applied Sciences dean Nimal Rajapske and school directors Kamal Gupta and Martin Ester welcomed the lively gathering of honour roll scholars, who took their seats after some mingling and refreshments.

Three alumni guest speakers took to the floor to share some words of wisdom. SAP software engineer Geoff Peters (grad. 2005) offered up some tips for success at a large company, including the importance of good communication and teamwork skills. Shaun Jackman (grad. 2005), a PhD student at UBC, talked about major life transitions, exploring his own progression from engineering to bioinformatics and from working in industry to graduate studies. Ensuring a pathway to grad school success was the focus for data mining master’s student Boshra Nabaei (grad. 2014), who encouraged students to get involved in the exciting world of research.

Congratulations to all the honour roll students for their impressive efforts and achievements.
