Business in Vancouver has profiled dean Eugene Fiume, who began his new role with SFU’s Faculty of Applied Sciences in January of this year.

Fiume joined SFU from the University of Toronto where, in addition to his teaching duties, he served as the director of the Master of Science in Applied Computing Program until his relocation to the West Coast.

Growing up in Toronto as the son of Italian immigrant parents, Fiume dreamed of becoming an entomologist, a scientist who studies insect. But before long, he was bitten by the tech bug instead.

After completing his bachelor’s in mathematics at the University of Waterloo, he earned his master’s degree and PhD in computer science from the University of Toronto.

Now an internationally recognized leader in visual modelling and computer graphics, Fiume brings his decades of expertise and leadership experience to his new role at SFU.

Learn more about Fiume’s life experiences, why he chose Simon Fraser University for his next challenge, and his ambitious plans for the faculty’s future, including establishing it among the world’s top 25.
