SFU’s ImageTech Lab, based in Surrey Memorial Hospital, has named Carolyn Sparrey as its new interim scientific director as professor Ryan D’Arcy steps down to focus on recent his research breakthroughs in brain imaging and neurotechnology research. Sparrey is an associate professor in the School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering and leads the Neurospine Biomechanics Lab.

D’Arcy, who holds the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation BC Leadership Chair in Multimodal Technology for Healthcare Innovations and is a professor of engineering and computing science, was instrumental in laying the vision and framework for the lab, which opened in September 2018, and overseeing its implementation over the past several months.
