Graduate students play an essential role in creating a vibrant academic atmosphere at any university, and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is proud of the contribution made by its Masters and Doctoral students. The graduate programs at SFU offer students excellent research opportunities in a personal environment.

Nineteen departments offer M.A. programs (see list on right). The School of Criminology also offers the MA in Applied Legal Studies, and the Department of English offers the Master of Arts for Teachers of English (MATE) and the Joint Master's in English and French Literatures (in conjunction with the Department of French).

Thirteen Ph.D. programs are available (see list on right).
