Thematic symposia are comprised of three to five individuals chosen for their special expertise on the topic. Symposium topics confirmed to date include:
Putting a face to older adult resilience: Examples that illustrate the concept (Gloria Gutman, convener)
This symposium will feature three individuals who have overcome adversity over the life course as they transitioned from being young to older adults. Health, work and relationship challenges will described. Speakers will highlight lessons that can be learned from their experience.
Stories of resilience by homeless older adults (Sarah Canham, convener)
This symposium will feature three individuals with lived experience of homelessness in Metro Vancouver. Each will describe their experience of resilience amidst relationship, health, and system challenges. Presentations will highlight the resources and the resourcefulness of panel members' experiences.
Using an innovation lens to find solutions to seniors’ housing insecurity (Elizabeth Tang, convener)
The Solutions Lab initiative under the National Housing Strategy provides funding to help solve complex housing problems. As the new round of Solutions Lab application intake is open till July 26, 2019, the panelists will explain how the Solutions Lab works with a real world example of how the funding is supporting a group of BC experts, housing providers, sector organizations and seniors’ service providers to address core challenges facing low-income older adult renters.
