In your own words, how would you describe contemporary art?

Contemporary art is art that is actively creating conversation and engaging with its contemporary moment. I believe successful art does not only address art itself but also its political and social surroundings.

As a student in Visual Art, what do you love most about the program?

The freedom that Visual Art students have at the 611 Alexander campus is what I love most. Being in the heart of the Downtown Eastside and also being able to have amazing studio space is what kept me in Vancouver for my studies.

What do you love most about FCAT?

Not having to study entirely at the Burnaby campus, thus my university experience has been more like a small college in the heart of the city. The facilities in Gastown and the Downtown Eastside along with a number of inspiring professors and students are what I love most.

What is the biggest piece of advice you would give new SCA Students?

Meet students in all of the Contemporary Arts majors, you will be able to work together in the future and you will meet lots of amazing young artists outside of your field.

Tell us about your most engaged moment here at SFU.

In my first two years I was juggling a double major in Theatre Performance and Visual Art, during that time I was entirely engaged in both disciplines.

You’ve had a chance to work on different projects - is there on in particular that stands out in your mind, and why?

Over a year ago I started an underground culture magazine Mania-Mag.com that is going on it’s third issue, this all started out of an idea for a school project.

What are your aspirations after you graduate?

I hope to move to Johannesburg South Africa and continue my work with Mania-Mag documenting underground music, style, and art while also continuing my fabric and textile art practice.

Do you have a website, an online portfolio, LinkedIn profile, etc. that you would like to share?

Yes!
