    As the 2022 recipient of the Lighthouse Lab prize, Interactive Arts and Technology 4th year student Nico Hernandez completed a web development Bootcamp in December 2022. Today, he is using his new skills, finishing his last semester at SFU, and ready to start his career.

  • On Monday, March 27th, family, friends, colleagues, peers, and instructors of SIAT alumnus Cody Sawatsky gathered at the SFU Surrey campus for the dedication of a memorial plaque in his honour.

  • Simon Fraser University’s (SFU) Michael Filimowicz studies new and emerging technology with a critical lens. He teaches and researches human-computer interaction, sound design, media arts and experimental phenomenology—the study of human experiences—at SFU’s School of Interactive Arts and Technology (SIAT). He is an interdisciplinary artist, musician, sound designer and a prolific scholar, creator and author.

  • Earlier this month, the prestigious academy inducted seven new members including SIAT professor Wolfgang Stuerzlinger at a ceremony hosted in Shanghai on March 28th.

  • Indigenous researcher and artist Jon Corbett has joined the School of Interactive Arts & Technology (SIAT) as an assistant professor with a research focus on computational creativity and Indigenous and decolonial computing.

  • The SFU School for the Contemporary Arts is pleased to welcome Kota Ezawa as the 2023 Spring Audain Visual Artist in Residence.

  • The new year began remarkably for Master of Publishing (MPub) alumna Claire Cavanagh. She was recently announced as a literary agent for The Rights Factory, an editorial agency founded almost two decades ago by its CEO, Sam Hiyate. Currently living and working in Lisbon, Portugal, Claire gave us an insight into her journey so far.

  • SFU Alumnus Trevor Lai (BBA ’02) was tapped by the Vancouver Canucks to design their warmup jersey to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. The thoughtful design uses a rabbit in place of the iconic original flying skate logo and was worn during the January 24th game.

  • The 2023 Skoden Indigenous Film Festival returns in person March 31, 2023 - April 1, 2023. This year's edition of the Festival is split into five programs: Activating the Landscape; It’s a Long Story, with feature Ever Deadly; The Deepest Part of my Heart; Who I Am, Who We Are; and Our Connections.

  • Mariane Bourcheix-Laporte, PhD Candidate from SFU's School of Communication writes for The Conversation about the Online Streaming Act and its potential impacts on freedom of expression for digital content creators and the variety of content Canadian audiences see.

  • Jonathan Newman is a fourth-year SIAT student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in media arts and he was recently presented with the Cody Sawatsky Memorial Award in Gaming.
