Biography

Professor David R MacLean MD is a Professor Emeritis in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Community Health & Epidemiology, Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University, Canada. He has significant experience as a clinician, public health officer and academic.

He is a former Head of the Department of Community Health & Epidemiology at Dalhousie; the founding Dean of the Faculty of Health Science at Simon Fraser University and previously was the Director of a WHO Collaborating Centre in Community Health at Dalhousie University. His main area of interest is global health with an emphasis on chronic disease surveillance, prevention and control. He has had an active research career and has been a consultant to the World Health Organization for over twenty years, and in the most recent past as a Senior Advisor in the office of the Assistant Director General for Noncommmunicable Disease and Mental Health in Geneva. Presently he continues his consultant interests in global health.
