Job Opportunity - Associate Director of Health Promotion, SFU

The Associate Director, Health Promotion is responsible for developing, facilitating and implementing institution-wide, comprehensive and systemic health promotion action aimed at enhancing the health, well-being, sense of community and overall experience of students at Simon Fraser University. The Associate Director provides leadership in developing strategic health promotion activities to support student learning, impact individual empowerment and capacity for health and well-being, and facilitate the creation of supportive campus settings. Working collaboratively with the Director, Health and Counselling, the Health and Counselling Services (HCS) leadership team, and Health Promotion Specialists, the Associate Director supports the development of partnerships with campus stakeholders from across the university, including Faculties, the Teaching and Learning Center, Facilities Services and other administrative and service units to build institutional momentum and embed well-being within campus culture, strategic plans and activities. The Associated Director ensures that Health Promotion works in collaboration with Counselling Services and others at Health and Counselling, to ensure the health, mental health and well-being of students is improved and enhanced through integrated supports and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Public Health or Health Education and five years of related management experience in systemic and comprehensive health promotion action and developing health promotion programs or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of health promotion, mental health promotion, and positive psychology theories.
  • Excellent knowledge of student health and well-being issues.
  • Good knowledge of BC Aboriginal history and issues.
  • Good knowledge of intersectional anti-oppression frameworks.
  • Excellent knowledge of a settings approach to health promotion action in a higher education environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of organizational culture and behaviour change strategies in large organizations.
  • Excellent planning, organizational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Excellent leadership, human resource management and financial management skills.
  • Excellent coaching, mentorship and team development skills.
  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative research skills (e.g., survey development, focus group design and facilitation, data analysis and interpretation).
  • Ability to manage large complex projects with multiple stakeholders and partners.
  • Ability to develop relationships and partnerships and to work collaboratively at all levels and areas within the organization.
  • Ability to assess student well-being needs and develop corresponding interventions. 
  • Ability to exercise mature judgement, initiative, diplomacy and tact.
  • Ability to arrange suitable transportation to various work locations.
