Biography

As the Grants Facilitator for FHS, Cecilia liaises with granting agencies, identifies and communicates new research funding opportunities to the FHS community, and works with FHS researchers to develop competitive research proposals for submission to national and provincial funding agencies such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, MSFHR, Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada, and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.

Cecilia Kalaw has twenty years of experience in grant writing and project development in non-profit, governmental, and academic settings. She was a grants officer for the BC government and a grant writer for various non-profit agencies. From 2000-2006, she was a health researcher for the UBC Department of Health Care and Epidemiology and the School of Nursing. She has expertise in community-based research, qualitative methods, gender analyses and tobacco research and has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications.

Cecilia has a Master of Arts in Education from Simon Fraser University. She has conducted policy research and written on public education, multiculturalism, human rights, and immigrant settlement and integration.
