Look Both Ways presents the work of visual art students graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University.

The artwork presented in the exhibition offers a glimpse into the practice of seventeen artists who have been part of a cohort for four years. Over this time, they have worked together and supported one another in their learning and artmaking. The exhibition marks a critical transit point in the lives of these students and in this time of transition. It serves as an anchor, a moment to reflect, assess, and analyze one last time before venturing beyond. It is wise to look both ways before taking such a step, and while the overarching themes are diverse, the concept of looking both ways binds the artwork together.

Working in mediums ranging from sculpture, textiles, ceramics, drawing, painting, video, photography, and performance, the artists physically manifest everyday encounters and raise metaphysical questions about our collective consciousness, the meaning of existence, archival authority, and loss. Through these works, sensations, ideas, and materialities, the artists come together.
