Details: Mare Crisium is relatively young but older than the mare Imbrium. It contains the prominent craters, Picard and Pierce. Crisium covers an area of over 66,000 sq mi and contains a large mass of lunar soil underneath it. This large mass has a high gravitational field and can cause orbiting satellites to crash into the surface prematurely.
