Background

Canada is entering a period of immense demographic change as baby boomers transitioning into their senior years, and Vancouver will not be excluded from this phenomenon, particularly in the multicultural neighbourhoods of Southeast Vancouver. In December of 2011, The Vancouver Park Board was seeking $1 million from the province to put toward the construction of a new senior’s community center in southeast Vancouver. “There are currently nine seniors’ centers across the City of Vancouver, but there are none in this quadrant (southeast) of the city, so there is a huge need and quite a gap in terms of the service we are providing” Park Board Vice-Chair Aaron Jasper said. Roughly 15,000 people 55 and older live in the area known as southeast Vancouver, south of 41st Avenue between Knight Street and Boundary Road, according to Vision Vancouver. The party says that number is expected to grow to about 18,000 by 2021. Seniors demand for programs and services from age 55 to 100+ years, with the core demand in the age group from 65 to 79. A projection of the future seniors’ population in southeast Vancouver from 2021 and 2041 has been made by City of Vancouver. By 2021, the population over age 65 in the area is forecast by more than 21% over 2006, an incensement of almost 3,100.

requirement of at least 10,000 square feet is necessary to come close to adequately meeting the overwhelming demand for programming and services. This project is seeking suitalbe locations for a new seniors center for Southeast Vancouver by using software IDRISI and ArcMap. By choosing multi criteria we analysis the combine of all them with different level of importance.
