Mapping of the
Emergency Response Teams
to the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Venues
Introduction
Whenever major events are held whether it be the Super Bowl, a major concert or the Olympics for example, there is always a concern about security. Concerns being how many police officers are on duty, like are there enough to prevent something bad from happening. Other concerns being are there any medical response teams in place in case of something happening. And how tight are the security measures in place like metal detectors or cameras.
With these types of big events these types of security measures are in place making the event more safe of the general public, however there is always a small chance something may happen. Take for example a small bomb going off during the Olympic summer games that were held in Atlanta back in 1996. There were security measures in place but still a bomb went off and the response to the bomb (by the FBI, the Fire Department and the city police) was swift.
In my project, I intend to map out how fast the police and fire departments can respond if something similar to Atlanta happened in Vancouver and its Olympic Venues when the city hosts the 2010 Winter Olympic games. This question being posed basically affects everyone from the athletes who take part in the games and the view public who watch these events live because it is a matter of life and death.
So by completing this process I hope to give some insight on how quick the nearest police and fire departments can get to the venues in case of an unforeseen emergency and such knowledge could be useful, as again it could be a matter of life and death.
