Mapping of the

Emergency Response Teams

to the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Venues

Problems and Discussion

Some of the problems I encounted with this project was firstly with the conversion of files. For example some shapes of lines from the streets networks were not that well maintained as some of the lines weren't straight and some curved a bit which made it difficult to correctly digitze the points. Also the GVRD municipalities were rather blocky looking and the resolution wasn't that great.

Another problem was the the lack of metadata. The accuracy of the data may not be well known.

Another problem encounted was the issue of positional accuracy problems with both the data I obtained and with the data I digitized myself.  My locations of fire and police departments, hospitals and the indoor Olympic venues may not be exactly where they should, and this may and can cause problems when calculating say the distance between the Olympic venues to the police department, fire hall, and the hospital for example.  Also my digitized points are fairly close to their accurate locations, the distance calculations may not be significantly incorrect.

And finally another problem is basic inexperience. The reason why is because for the most part of the project, I felt I was fumbling around with this program and at times I didn't really know what I was doing as there are a few things with this program that frustrated me when doing this project. If I had more experience with this program, I felt I would have accomplished a lot more with this project in terms of spatial analysis.

And finally to one last thing to say......

Enjoy the 2010 Winters Games!!!!!!!!

(I know, I know, it's still a good 6 1/4 years away, but still one can't get excited)
