When comparing the maps created in IDRISI it was clear that crime rates were largely dependant on how dense the populations are. This is also directly related to the police force numbers for the district areas. In most cases, police force numbers have increased from 1996 - 2002, however there are only a few areas where there has been a decrease in crime rates. This could partially be a result of a decrease in unemployment rates, as can be seen from the maps created in ArcMap.
Because it was somewhat difficult to obtain all of the information I originally wanted for this project, it was hard to understand what other factors may have contributed to the change in crime rates through out the districts. Clearly populations, police force, and the other factors used in this study will have an impact on crime rates however, there are many more underlying factors.
It was also difficult to take the resutling maps at face value. All of my tabular data came in the form of statistical data which provides general information at best. It would be wrong to assume that the information used in this study is very accurate although it can be thought of as providing  a broad perspective on what the real answers may be.
My cartographic model was created by assigning atribute values files from my various data sources to the GVRD map. This provided a visual interpretation of the factors involved with crime rates for this project from the years 1996 and 2002. It would have been beneficial to maximize the abilities of the software program IDRIS however my data was not well suited for this. Had I spent less time trying to bring my tabular data into IDRISI, in a format that could be manipulated, I may have been able to use more of the tools in IDRISI. The resutling maps produced provide a good visual on the components used in this project and how they relate to one another.
