Wildlife of the Canadian Arctic
There are over 36 different kinds of mammals that live in the arctic environment, 17 of which are marine species. The number of species in arctic region is low compared to the warmer parts of the world.

Nevertheless, these species have successfully lived in the coolest part of the world, because they have thick coats and blubber to keep them warm. The common animals that can be found in Canadian Arctic region are arctic fox, caribou, musk-ox, polar bear, seal and whales.

The extremely cold temperature has limited the activities of these arctic mammals; especially the species live on land, such as polar bear and arctic fox. Thus, they are more active during the summer season.

Besides these mammals, there are birds live in the arctic region as well. Birds do not stay in the arctic in the winter months; they migrate to the south. Thus, birds are found in the Canadian Arctic region during the warmer summer months only.
