The 2003 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship was won by Toronto's Alexander Mogilny, who was a first-time finalist for the award. Mogilny beat out and another first-timer in Dallas' Mike Modano and one repeater in Lidstrom (Picarello, 2003).

Alexader Mogilny led the Maple Leafs and finished 15th in the NHL in scoring with 79 points (33 goals, 46 assists). Also Mogilny led his club in assists, game-winning goals (nine) and shorthanded goals (three, tie) (NHL.com, 2003)
